After reading through the reading I have realized that my specific writing process is more complicated than I originally thought. I also have realized it may be best to change my writing process due to the many flaws in my process.
I consider myself to be a heavy planner. Although I do consider myself to be a heavy planner, I tend to also procrastinate, but I only procrastinate on the writing portion, not the planning part making it easier for me to sit down and write out the entire thing in a couple hours.
Up until now my writing process has succeed most times, however there have been a few time in which I have procrastinated on writing the actual paper that I failed to complete it on time. While the planning tends to be a very strong portion of my writing process, the actual writing tends to air on the side of weakness.
The one thing that I may want to try differing with my writing process is to quit procrastinating with the writing portion so that I will have time to get edits on the paper from peers. If I was to change my writing process it would change from heavy planner and procrastinator to a heavy planner and heavy reviser
EDIT:
Going through some of my classmates blogs, it appears that heavy reviser has a lot of definite benefits like getting help from peers and instructors on how to improve my essay. Most notably Mike explains the revision process and makes it seem like you need to write the paper a while before it is due to be a good heavy reviser. Hallye has the same problem that Mike faces that time is the main constraint. If I was to be a Heavy reviser I'd have to be on top of things and write my papers long before they are due to be able to be a heavy reviser.

I am totally with you on the planning aspect. I tend to put off the actual writing as well. And we could both use a little more time putting our words on the paper so that we can edit the paper more. I feel that when I revise as I am typing I tend to flesh out a pretty good draft. Yet, I feel that if I were to draft earlier and then have others edit my paper like you suggested, I will end up with a better paper. I feel that if you were to embody some of the Sequential Composer's approaches, your writing process would continue to grow and improve. Glad to know that someone else does plan heavily like I do though.
ReplyDeleteHey Elliot! Now that you are almost done with this course, did you ever find yourself procrastinating to the point where you didn't get your paper turned in on time or were you able to overcome that this semester? How did the weekly deadlines affect your planning process? Did you find that you moved to become a heavy reviser? If you did, do you think that will continue beyond this course?
